Welcome to the Gatchell Chatter. Last night was Thursday the 8th and I was settled in for the night when about 10 PM the phone rang to announce that the furnace at the post in the hall had died and what can I do? Since it was bitter cold and the hour was not in our favor Joe Kelley and Don Morin who were at the post were looking for instructions. We all decided the only thing we could do was take precautionary measures. I advised Don to remove the filter in the furnace because that was the most recent thing that was done to the furnace and could be causing the problem. Secondly I asked Joe to crack all the water faucets to keep the water running and to turn the heat up downstairs so no pipes would freeze. I arrived at the post about 9AM after a fitful night of sleep and found the post cold but secure. Earlier the night before I called my son Gary about the problem. He installed the system about 8 years ago. He said to call him in the morning, and I did about 8:15. He showed up soon after and said that two of his employees were on the way. What they found was plastic shopping bags had been sucked up into the bird cage fan and many strings from balloons had wrapped themselves around the motor shaft burning out the motor. Because I knew that we had a double rental on Saturday and Bingo on Sunday I proceeded to have the motor replaced at great cost. And when it was finished the furnace was back on line and running like a new furnace by 2 PM. I would like to thank my son Gary of Thomson Mechanical and his employees for a job well done .**************************************** On Wednesday the 13th we decided to tap into the furnace in the hall and add a gate vent, attach an insulated flexible duct thru a hole in the floor and into the ladies room downstairs so we can bring emergency heat downstairs. The whole thing did not cost much, but it was worth a whole lot more. Also on the 13th we received the news that our new web page was in service. For those of you that have computers click unto the web with this. www.vfwpost306.com and the page will get better as time goes on.

FROM THE LADIES To all my Auxiliary Sisters, I want you all to know we are doing well, but it could be much better if more of you would come to meetings and to all the special functions that we have. We are having a Department State Meeting when our Department President and all her officers will be at our post. It would be nice if you would come to meet them. This meeting will be on March 15 at 7:30 PM. Try to be here. Then on April 18 we are going to host a forum for the National President at our post. This is a great honor for us and it would be nice to see many of you there. This is the third year we have hosted the National President’s visit and we all feel honored to be chosen to do this. Please try to be at the Post to meet her. Remember our elections will be coming up soon so think of who you want to be your leaders and come down to vote for them. Well, I guess that’s all for now. Come to our meetings and ask questions. I hope you all know our meetings are on the third Monday of the month. Mark your calendar and then you won’t miss it. I hope you are all keeping warm during this cold spell. Remember if you know of anyone that is sick, let us know so we can send cards. So long for now, hope to you all soon. Auxiliary President Theresa Watts *************************************
